ABOUT GDBx

Global Digital Broadcast operate an IPTV delivery network with a large client base of content providers and channel owners. Specializing in channel creation and delivery to our network aimed at the IPTV set top box market and also PC’s, we have a clear and defined understanding of how to deliver in a competitive market with a ground breaking background in localized broadcasting.

Long before the incorporation of GDB our co-founder, Jim Deans, was one of the first people in the UK to hold a Restricted Service License (RSL) enabling him to set up the most successful RSL channels to operate in the UK, Lanarkshire Television. Due to the restrictive cost of setting up and broadcasting both over terrestrial and via satellite GDB have identified the new broadcasting medium of IPTV which enables any small to medium sized organisation to operate a commercial television channel.

Global Digital Broadcast are one of the biggest network of independent content owners and community channels for IPTV in the world. Now in the process of building more television channels to deliver over IP, GDB have formed associations with some of the major network operators, hardware manufacturers, DRM (Digital Rights Management) providers and set top box manufacturers in the world. GDB have new independent channels from local TV and regional programming, diving, aggressive skating, martial arts and motorsports to education and government information.

The costs of setting up and transmitting with either satellite, cable or terrestrial have proven to be the major stumbling block for new channel creation. Set up costs ranging anywhere from £200,000 for a limited cable channel to £2m on satellite are considerable compared with an IPTV channel which at £20,000 enable you to target such things as local advertising and niche markets more effectively.

With the forthcoming global launch of IPTV local channels and even the home movie maker will be capable of broadcasting their own channel over IP for the same set up costs as an average family saloon.
Now for the first time there is a real opportunity for entrepreneurs to start local community television and
attract advertisers who can target their local audience.

There is a huge market waiting to be consumed out there and GDB have set their stall out as leaders in channel creation and content delivery over IP. With networks in the UK and Europe as well as North America set to increase by the end of 2006 to take up to 24mb to the home, IPTV will soon be the standard platform for delivery of on-demand, PPV and Subscription content from the major players to the back street minnows.

The capabilities for the niche market have arrived at a fraction of the cost!

The complete system is a relatively simple process with GDB being the convergence of a number of technologies. With the installation and relatively low expense of SDSL (Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) we can now all have the potential of broadcasting Live to the web meaning a revenue can be generated for a movie maker still in the process of making the movie. A movie fan can see the making of a production and even interact with the process to add another dimension for the producers and directors!

Using Global Digital Broadcast’s GDBTV™ platform a channel owner can administer their channel through a simple web interface. As well as setting up sub-channels, creating programmes, organising PPV content and protecting content using DRM the GDBTV™ control panel enables the monitoring of revenue streams, advertising statistics and scheduled playout. Now a channel owner is in control of the whole process from the encoding, live or pre-recorded content delivery and channel creation.
